Data Analysis and Application

In this paper, an analysis of the paper Psychological Characteristics and the Effectiveness of Patient-Controlled Analgesia will be provided. The objective of that paper is to assess whether the level of state and trait anxiety, neuroticism, extroversion and coping style are good predictors of the effectiveness of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) for patients undergoing total abdominal hysterectomy, by using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis.

Data File Description

The variables of interest for the analysis are L evel of state and trait anxiety (measured at the interval level), N euroticism (measured at the interval level), Extroversion (measured at the interval level), and C oping style (measured at the interval level). Those are the independent variables in the analysis. The dependent variable is Effectiveness of patient-controlled analgesia (measured at the interval level). The sample size used a sample size of N = 110.

Testing A ssumptions

The assumptions for a multiple linear regression model are that there is a linear relationship between the dependent variable and the predictors, and that the error terms are normally distributed with mean equal zero and constant variance.
