ANCOVA Case: Stalking Research Study
This paper is about a research study related with stalking. A psychologist decided to tests two different therapies on people with a reported history of stalking, and who are currently still exhibiting stalking behavior. The therapies are cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approach. The objective of this analysis is to determine whether the therapy has an effect on the number of hours a person is engaged in stalking-like behaviors three months after having started the therapy, after controlling for the number of hours a person was engaged in stalking-like behaviors before starting the therapy. For this purpose, an ANCOVA analysis will be conducted. The following null and alternative hypotheses need to be tested
Ho: \[{{\mu }_{1}}={{\mu }_{2}}\] after controlling for the number of hours a person was engaged in stalking-like behaviors before starting the therapy
Ha: \[{{\mu }_{1}}\ne {{\mu }_{2}} \] after controlling for the number of hours a person was engaged in stalking-like behaviors before starting the therapy
For the ANCOVA analysis, the independent variable is the treatment conditions: cognitive-behavioral ("cruel to be kind" therapy) and psychodynamic approach. The covariate is the number of hours a person was engaged in stalking-like behaviors before starting the therapy, and the dependent variable is he number of hours a person is engaged in stalking-like behaviors three months after having started the therapy.
