Computer Exercise 11: Logistic Regression

Recode the depressed state of mind (depress) variable into the dichotomous variable with two groups: those who rated themselves as rarely depressed are scored 0, and those who rated themselves as sometimes to routinely depressed are scored 1. Using the new variable as an outcome variable, determine which of the following variables increase the odds of being depressed.

age

gender

smoking history

Quality of life in the past month

total IPA

For this analysis, please recode the following variables into dichotomous variables with two groups:

Enter age and gender in the first block and recoded smoking history, quality of life and total IPA score in the second block.

  1. Use Book 5
  2. Recode appropriate variables
  3. Assumptions check is not necessary
  4. Run Logistic Regression
    How to Run Logistic Regression
  5. Interpret PASW output and write up your findings.

Results should include the goodness of fit test results for a final model, classification results (% correct and incorrect, overall percentage), total variance explained by the predictors, a final logistic regression equation model, results of significance test (Wald) and Interpretation of odd ratio for each predictor.
