Collect 500 heights of students and do the following analysis: Find the average and the standard deviation
Collect 500 heights of students and do the following analysis:
- Find the average and the standard deviation and plot a histogram for the data (use a fraction of the standard deviation as the width of each stem of the histogram)
- Subtract the average from each data point and then find the average of the absolute values of the resulting differences; compare this average to the standard deviation.
- Divide your histogram into 8 sections using standard deviation as the width of each section. Find how many points fall in each section (use percentages %). Use the normal probability table to find the probability of being (use percentage %). Compare each corresponding with each other’s.
Repeat the above exercise for 1000 heights and comment on the differences between the two cases.
