Assignment

Build and briefly interpret a logistic regression model to predict happiness. (using GSSNET.SAV, posted in the resources section).

Use the general happiness variable and create a "Very Happy" dummy variable (1=Very Happy, 0= Pretty Happy or Not too Happy)

First, read the following article for background:

http://pewresearch.org/assets/social/pdf/AreWeHappyYet.pdf (Feel free to do some websearches on the topic to learn more). Use this paper to guide your model building (based on data availability).

Using the general social survey dataset build a model of the factors which predict happiness. Use the model building approach discussed in class. Does money seem to predict happiness? Marriage? Age? What other factors are strong predictors of happiness? How do your results differ from the Pew Research Study, if at all?

Details

Interpret your final logistic regression model in 3 pages or so. What do the results imply to you? (include output from final model).

Interpret all of the logistic statistics that we talk about in class (I just want to see your final model, but I do want to hear about variables which you tried which were not statistically significant).

Use graphics to reinforce your arguments if you wish (not required)

Refer to the logistic regression model process document for reference.
