You are working for an automotive consulting firm, and have been asked to screen a dataset for errors and then prepare the data for possible use in multivariate analyses. The dataset provided is called CARS1.SAV. Perform appropriate screening functions to the data per Tabachnick & Fidell’s recommendations. This would include outliers (univariate outliers only!!! Don’t worry about checking multivariate outliers), missing data, and univariate/multivariate assumptions (where possible – and please note that many of these assumptions are only addressed for continuous data). NOTE – when you check for multicollinearity, ONLY check this though bivariate correlations – you do not have to run the COLLIN or tolerance options). The number of variables to be screened is small, so you can easily do a comprehensive job. Make any suggested changes to the data (e.g., you may have skewed data, so you may have to transform the data, or you may have to do something about outliers). Again, read Tabachnick and Fidell and follow their examples where possible, including their write-up approach where appropriate.
Product : Write a brief report relaying your data screening endeavors to senior management personnel (you may want to use bullet-points). The report should be professional in nature, yet easy to read and understand. Summarize your findings regarding the tasks above, and what you DID to correct some of the data (if you changed any of it at all). Make sure you DEFEND what you did (just saying you deleted a case is not enough). The more comprehensive the report is, the better you will do on the assignment.
Append your SPSS output – you may summarize some of this information since the output may be vast. Also, you will HAVE to cut and paste the SPSS output into a Word document then send it that way since we are all working on different versions of SPSS.
Deliverable: Word Document
