Exercise:
We are interested in predicting alcohol beverage preference (e.g., who drinks wine vs. who drinks beer). A number of demographic, attitudinal, and behavioral variables are available for the analysis. The data has been provided.
The 9 predictor variables include:
- Demographics (age, gender)
- Attitudes (moral acceptability to drive after drinking, perception of ability to handle
alcohol than other drivers, fear of going to jail if caught drinking and driving)
- Behavioral intentions (intention to drink and drive in the next year)
- Behaviors (number of times driving when intoxicated, max number of drinks consumed on an occasion in past year, number of DUI arrests in past 5 years).
Your criterion is alcohol beverage preference (n_type8b).
Which of the predictor variables best predicts alcohol beverage choice? Which are the best predictors? What type of person prefers beer or wine? How well can these variables predict beverage choice? Use SPSS and run LR - use a forced entry approach, so all variables enter the model at the same time. Write a short results section and then write a short discussion of your findings. To figure out the direction of your findings, pay close attention to the variable value labels in the dataset. Append your output.
