Week 9 Assignment Guidance – ANOVA and T-test

1. Do an ANOVA and Paired Samples T-test on the "Hospital Financial Data" Excel spread sheet (provided). After you do an ANOVA and a series of paired sample T-Tests you will write a 1-2 page paper describing your findings. Your goal is to solve the following research question: " Is there any one hospital that has a financial advantage over the other?" Your analysis should include (minimally) the following (this list is not necessarily in the sequence I am asking for, but rather represents the minimal information you should include)
   1. A purpose statement and/or introductory paragraph telling me the outline of your paper
   2. A statement of the null and alternate hypotheses in sentence and notation form.
   3. A presentation of the confidence interval and p-value
   4. A brief discussion of both the ANOVA and T-test methodology
   5. A discussion of pertinent output tables from SPSS. Minimally include the main ANOVA table and T-test table.
   6. Based on SPSS output, discuss the following – including any pertinent relationships: F-statistics, MSE, MSTR, significance, K, N, n, sample size, cases, treatments, confidence intervals, descriptive statistics, correlations.
   7. Suggest what kind of experimental design this testing may represent. Include design notation.

2. For this exercise you will:
   1. Import the Excel file into SPSS
   2. Create two new columns. One called "Hospital" and the other called "Finances"
   3. Code the facilities so that 1=Hospital A, 2=Hospital B, etc…
   4. Conduct an ANOVA and a series of paired samples T-test
      Cut and Paste your SPSS tables into an MS Word file for discussion.
