W eek 1 2 Assignment Guidance : Chi-Square

1. For this exercise you will do a Chi-square Analysis in the data set titled "BACKPAIN." This data set is provided to you in the weekly unit. You want to see if there is a difference in backpain between Males and Females. Backpain is your primary unit of analysis. You will see when you open the dataset that 0 = no back pain and 1 = back pain. Furthermore, Males are coded as 1 while Females are coded as 2.
2. Do a C hi S quare analysis on this data set based on the instructions provided to you in the lecture. After you have conducted the analysis and produced the SPSS output, write a 2 page paper discussing the following:
   1. Describe the Chi-Square Analysis methodology (about 1 paragraph) and why/how this data fits the assumptions of Chi-square.
   2. Write out the Chi-Square Null and Alternate Hypothesis
   3. Discuss your findings. Start with the Case Processing Summary and move through the Cross tabulation and the Chi-Square table. Discuss pertinent relationships and findings as they relate to you r analysis.
   4. State your decision rule for the null hypothesis. What is your finding – why?
   5. Write a summary / conclusion wrapping up your findings.
3. In addition to your narrative write up, answer the following questions:
   1. What is the over all difference in back pain between males and females?
   2. When looking at Females "% within back pain" we see 64.9. How is this number calculated? What does this mean?
