PRACTICE EXERCISES

Assume that the same researchers who conducted the chili sauce experiment also collected data regarding the amount of water (measured in milliliters) each child consumed after tasting one of the three chili sauces. This data is presented in Table 8.2. Use the One-Way ANOVA and LSD Post Hoc Tests to determine what effect, if any, tasting the different sauces had on the amount of water the eight-year-olds drank. For the ANOVA, report the F, N, between-subjects degrees of freedom, within-subjects degrees of freedom, and alpha level (level of significance). Then indicate whether the analysis was significant. For each group, report the means, standard deviations, and the sample sizes. If the results of the ANOVA are significant, interpret the Post Hoc LSD \(t\) -tests and indicate which group means, if any, are significantly different. What can you conclude from these results?

PRACTICE EXERCISES

Assume a researcher is interested evaluating the relationship between the number of complaints lodged by each of 20 different reindeer over the past 25 years and the number of times each reindeer has been part of the team on Chrisman Eve in the past 25 years. These data are presented in Table 11.2. Enter the data into SPSS, complete the following analyses, and for each analysis indicate what the results tell us about the relationship between the number of complaints lodged and being a part of the team on the "big night."

  1. Conduct a Bivariate Correlation analysis and report the Pearson's r, N, df, and alpha level, and interpret the results.
  2. Conduct a Simple Linear Regression and report the \(Y\) -intercept, b, t, and alpha level, and interpret the results.
  3. Generate a scatterplot of the data and include the regression line in the chart.
  4. What do these results tell us about the relationship between the two variables?
