Moderating and Mediating Effect of Sibling Aggression on the Relationship Between Parenting Style and Aggression

The purpose of this study is to conduct a multiple linear regression analysis in order to test to see if Sibling Aggression is a mediator of the relationship between Parenting Style and Aggression or whether Sibling Aggression is a moderator of the relationship. The DV in this analysis is Aggression and the IV is Parenting Style . The variable Sibling Aggression will be added a predictor to test for its mediation effect on the relationship between Parenting Style and Aggression , and the interaction Sibling Aggression * Parenting Style will be also added to the model to test for the moderating effect on the relationship between Parenting Style and Aggression . The sample consisted of N = 666 subjects. Burnout classifications were dichotomized into two groups based on instructors' reports. The following model will be tested.

Equation 1: Regression Model

\(Aggression={{\beta }_{0}}+{{\beta }_{1}}parstyle+{{\beta }_{2}}sibaggresion+{{\beta }_{3}}parstyle\times sibaggression+\varepsilon \)

The null and alternative hypotheses that need to be tested are shown below. A hierarchical regression will be conducted to test the following hypotheses:

Research Hypotheses 1 : Overall significance of the model

Ho1: \({{\beta }_{1}}={{\beta }_{2}}={{\beta }_{3}}=0\)

Ha1: At least one of the slope coefficients is different from zero.
