  1. I would like for each of you to use decision trees to characterize a problem that you are currently facing. You can create the decision tree in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, or Word) and attach it to your post so that everyone can see the graphical representation of the problem that you are tackling. In your discussion post, please describe what the problem is and how the decision tree will enable you to characterize it properly.
  2. Next, use expected value analysis to solve a problem that you are currently facing. Besides describing the problem I would like for each of you to assess probabilities of outcomes and conduct an expected value calculation to determine the best outcome. Please post the details of this in your discussion post to share with the rest of the class.

To Complete the Discussion:

Post a thorough response to the questions. Be sure to read and respond to your peers as well. To gain full-credit for your work, you must post one substantive response and reply to a minimum of two postings. I would also like you to respond to anyone who comments on your post. Note: Discussions are to be interactive and emulate the classroom environment; therefore, initial postings should be made by Wednesday and replies should be made by Sunday.

1. What is an example of a problem that you feel could be solved by the use queuing theory? In your post, specify what the problem is that you’d like to solve and how you would specify a model that would address the problem. You don’t have to actually collect data or run a simulation for this—we’re just looking for how you would analyze it.

2. I would like for you to find a journal article or research paper that uses a queuing approach to analyze data. In your post this week I would like for you to attach an electronic copy of the article (if possible) and/or provide a link to where the article is located. In your post, please discuss how the author is using queuing analysis, what the problem is that they are solving, and what the results of the analysis are. Ensure that you discuss the output results of the analysis to include information on the problem and what they accomplished.
