In the file there is 40 variables and 110 cases. The file contains data from an evaluation of two different treatments against money-gambling addiction – psychological treatment, and drug treatment. 110 money-gambling addicted persons participated, and was randomly assigned to one of the two treatments.

The task is to describe the population, and evaluate the effect of the two treatments. Below is a detailed description of the variables.

Variabel 1 is treatment (1=psychological, 2=drug)

Variabel 2 is sex (1=male 2=female)

Variabel 3 is age

Variabel 4 is marital status (1=married/cohabitant/partner, 2= single/divorced/separated/widower/widow)

Variabel 5 is education, and it varies with years of schooling after elementary school

Variabel 6 is children (1=has kids 2=does not have kids)

Variabel 7-15 (CPGI1pre til CPGI9pre) are paragraphs 1-9 on a scale called Canadian Problem Gambling Index. On every paragraph the scale goes from 1 (never problematic) to 4(always problematic). The higher the score, the more problems.

Variabel 7-15 is taken before treatment. All paragraphs is summed to make up a total score.

Variabel 16-22 (HADS_D1pre til HADS_D7pre) Contains the 7 depression paragraphs on Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale measured before (pre)treatment. Every paragraph is scored 0-3. Paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 is reversed. Alle the paragraphs is part of the total score. Higher scores equals stronger symptoms.

Variabel 23 shows the presence of gambling addiction before (pre) treatment-start. This is a dichotomic variabel with the following levels: 1=healthy, 2=addiction

Variabel 24-32 (CPGI1post til CPGI9post) are paragraphs 1-9 on the Canadian Problem Gambling Index measured efter (post) treatment. All the paragraphs is summed up to make a total score.

Variabel 33-39 (HADS_D1post til HADS_D7post) is the 7 depression-paragraphs on Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale measured after (post) treatment. Each paragraph scores 0-3. Paraghraphs 3, 4 and 5 is reversed. All the paragraphs is part of the total score. Higher value = stronger symptoms.

Variabel 40 shows the presence of gambling-addiction after (post) treatment. It is a dichotomic variabel, with the following levels: 1=healthy, 2=addiction

  1. Are the two treatmentgruops different from each other with regards to sex, age, marital status, education and children?
  2. Calculate and rapport internal consistency for CPGI and HADS-depresiion both before and after treatment. What are the average score for the variables in the two groups before and after treatment?
  3. Examine the effect of the treatment in CPGI and HADS.
  4. How big percentage of the two groups had a gambling addiction before and after treatment? Is the difference from pre to post significant? Is the change from pre to post on the gambling addiction between the two groups significant?
  5. Is there a connection between age and effect of treatment?
  6. How is the factor structure for CPGI and HADS-depression before treatment?
  7. Make a short summary of the major findings (100-200 words)
