Data Driven Risk Assessment Project
The purpose of this short paper is to somewhat mimic the data driven analysis tool presented by Anne Milgram, at the TED conference Why smart statistics are the key to fighting crime , which can be found at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJNESMhIxQ0
The main idea of the analysis is to create a dataset with relevant variables and use logistic regression to predict the likelihood of committing an act of violence if released and the likelihood of coming back to court if released.
The following variables will be put into a dataset:
- violent: Has committed a Violent Crime (1 = Yes, 0 = No)
- durlastcon: Duration of last conviction in months
- latestoffense: Latest Offense (1 = Murder, 2 = Forcible Rape, 3 = Aggravated Assault, 4 = Other)
- failuretoap: Prior Failure to appear (1 = Yes, 0 = No)
- actofviolence: Committed new act of violence after being released last time (1 = Yes, 0 = No)
- backtocourt: Came back to court after being released last time (1 = Yes, 0 = No)
