Assignment 3: We are concerned, let us pretend, to understand what social characteristics, if any, predict

Assignment 3:

We are concerned, let us pretend, to understand what social characteristics, if any, predict responses to the following question on the proper social policy treatment of disadvantage: (p20)

"Here are some more statements that are sometimes made about what is just and unjust in Country. Using the same card tell me how much you agree or disagree with each.

V208 It is just that disadvantaged groups are given extra help so that they can have equal opportunities in life."
The "strongly agree" have been coded into dummy variable v208sa.

  1. Run a logistic regression, with v208sa as the dependent variable, and with age (v8, , class (v407c, , gender ( , West/East block (Block, p2) and respondent's view of the adequacy of their household income as predictors. [Note that some of these predictors are interval-level, others are categorical.]
    Interpret your results.
  2. Some respondents strongly agreed with a more pessimistic scenario:
V214 The way things are these days, it is hard to know what is just anymore.
Again, these have been coded in dummy variable v214sa. Run a logistic regression with v214sa as your dependent, and with the same set of predictors as in question
    Interpret your results.
  3. The proportion strongly agreeing to each question are roughly the same. Does informally comparing the two regressions allow us to say anything interesting?
  4. Estimate one further logistic regression (with variables of your choosing) investigating some issue of interest to you.
