Spreadsheet Models

Description:

A major requirement in BUSI 276 is the term project. Choose one of the topics below, investigate, and write a report on what you have found. Submit all relevant spreadsheets as part of the project – but write a report that describes it also. No groups, please.

We study Linear Programming, Inventory Control, Queuing, Project Management, Forecasting, and Financial Decision models as part of this course. My expectation is that you will do some kind of project that involves a spreadsheet model in one of those areas. However, you can diverge from those areas if you have some other interesting proposal.

Your project should fit one of these 2 options:

  1. Practical attempt to build a useful spreadsheet model
For any practical purpose, build a spreadsheet to be used in an actual business setting. Explain the purpose of the spreadsheet, who would use it, and how it would be used. (Of course, higher points will be awarded for spreadsheets of greater value.)
  2. Description of a model

Identify an instance in which a company has used spreadsheets to model some aspect of business. (This option is very similar to option #1 above, except that in this option you are not building the spreadsheet yourself). Explain the purpose of the spreadsheet, who would use it, and how it would be used.
