Report

A scatterplot is constructed for the variables Population and Labor Force , and a clear positive linear association is observed for these two variables. It is observed that the data kind of "fanning out" for higher values of Population .

A linear regression analysis was performed for Population as the independent variable and Labor Force as the dependent variable. The regression model is Labor Force = -341466.00 + 0.43831967*Population (Model 1). The model is significant overall, F(1, 181) = 3545.941, p < .001 . The coefficient of determination is R 2 = 0.9514, which indicates that 95.14% of the variation in Labor Force is explained by Population . The plot of predicted values versus residuals shows that the assumption of homoskedasticity is clearly violated, as the plot shows a clear fanning out pattern. Using the BP test, it is found that the assumption of homoskedasticity is violated, BP = 87.28, p< .001.
