Introduction

The objective of this paper is to analyze what factors help to explain significantly the percentage of overall wins for a professional basketball team. Among the research questions of the interest, there is one that pops up to mind: Do the salary of players have an effects on the percentage of wins? (In other words, are the players worth their salary?.

The following variables will be considered as possible predictors for the response variable, which in this case is Team Win Percentage Overall :

  • Salary of the top player
  • Age
  • Height
  • MPG
  • PPG
  • RPG
  • FG
  • Team Win Percentage in Division
  • Team Win Percentage in Conference
  • Clinched Payoffs

The dataset used for the analysis consists of 24 cases, and the data were obtained from the USA Today (Data source: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/default.htm; Years 2008-9).
