International Affairs Statistics & Methods

Broad Parameters .

  1. Method. The final paper is to be an exercise in conducting systematic analysis into a research question that interests you. It is an opportunity for you to demonstrate skill and expertise in research and analysis from the quantitative lens. With that in mind, the broad parameters are as follows:
  1. It must be an investigation using an inferential multivariate regression model designed to assess and predict the relationship between a dependent variable and at least four independent variables. You might not end up with four independent variables in your final analytical model, but you need to begin with at least four of them.
    OR
  2. It can be another type of investigation such as the development of a cross-tabulation analysis similar to what we often see in the analysis of survey and international development research data or it could be an investigation using another inferential method of your choosing such as a single case study time series analysis that we often see in political economy type studies.
  1. Scope . You should plan on your paper to range from 8 to 15 pages maximum (double space with 12 point font), including all tables, graphs, and bibliography.
  2. Sources of data. You are free to use any of the class data sets, including combinations of them. You are also free to construct your own data from any reputable source or sources with the proviso that you send me a brief email (before you get started) so we can check the veracity of the data together. You are also free to investigate any data that you might have helped compile with a professor at AU (or at any other university) for an ongoing research project.
