Your Data Interpretation Practicum
In order to widely disseminate or publish your research findings, they must be presented in a manner that facilitates comprehension by the educated reader. This week, you will present the findings from the analyses you conducted on your chosen data from Week 3. (Week 3 assignment attached)
Week 3 posting: (original data file attached)
The data set proposed, which will be called "Manufacturing Safety Metrics", is a collection of data and metrics relating to the safety of employees for 51 distinct supervisors across 3 separate geographical manufacturing locations.
8 variables are given within the data set which could form the basis for assumptive reasoning and hypotheses. 4 of these variables are pure data elements itemizing number of employees, total hours worked, supervisor gender and a brief qualitative description of the work done under each supervisor. An ordinal variable is given for a risk level of the supervisor's department ranging from 1-7 with 8 being the most risky work. Observation reveals a consistency between the job description and risk level so the assumption is made that the former drives the latter. Also supplied are 3 calculated safety metrics: personal safety behavior, injury rate, and safety climate. The basis of these calculations is not supplied but their veracity will be assumed in good faith for the purpose of this study.
H0: The gender of the supervisor does not affect the injury rate of his/her employees.
H1: Employees of female supervisor have a higher injury rate than those male supervisors.
